The JCMO Historic Summit

Jul 29, 2013 by

Historic City of Jefferson | JCMOLast weekend, I had the opportunity to attend the JCMO Historic Summit.  The reason for the summit was for everyone to get a better understanding of various groups that touch on historic preservation in order to minimize duplication of activities and identify areas where we might be able to work together.

I had no idea there were so many organizations in JCMO that work on “historic” stuff (stuff being a technical term).  Here they are:

Cole County Historical Society

Old Town Redevelopment Co.

Old Munichburg Association

Historic Preservation Commission, City of Jefferson

Community Development Staff, City of Jefferson

Downtown Jefferson City

Historic City of Jefferson

Historic City of Jefferson Foundation

I really enjoyed hearing about all of the entities and organizations and the their current projects.  There are a lot of people doing good work in this community.  We came to a consensus that we need to get together on more regular basis.

Many of the organizations’ leaders expressed the need for additional members or volunteers.  If you have an interest in history, historic preservation or community betterment — click on the links to learn more and get involved!
